We are considering a 1oo + year old house that has been forclosed. I don't know alot about foundations, so I was wondering how much is too much for foundation repair? How can you tell, even after an inspection, whether it would be too costly or even worth it. For the most part the house seems great, but the outside brick foundation was loose. The inside walls also had numerous cracks in every direction. The floors were settled, but not too terribly. I could use anyones advice who has worked with older homes. Thanks! |

I am not familar with old houses, but I suggest that you get this books.
"Renovating Old Houses: Bringing New Life to Vintage Homes (Paperback)
by George Nash"

There is no way for anyone to give even hints as to the cost of repairs. What you describe might be minor cracks that don't require any repairs. And vary from there to have to require moving the house and replacing the whole foundation systems.
It might cost $500 to 50,0000 or more.
Find someone, specially one that has is familar with older homes, to evaluate it. |
