Question for your home experts:

I have this 1950's era "flame proof" insulation that appears to be a wood fiber not unlike the stuff they have today, only this stuff is old and has a notable odor to it that you can smell in the room. This is the second house I've bought that has this old grey wood fiber insulation in it. Like the first house I bought this one too has a certificate sitting there that tells how it won't catch on fire even when a torch is applied to it. Both attics had that trademark smell, it's definitely not mold. If you pick this stuff up you can smell that the odor is the insulation.

My question is this, is there any known health issues with this type of insulation? Was any of that stuff mixed with aesbestos back in the day?
