3" drain pipe across floor joists

02/06/2005 06:57 AM witeagle

We are remodeling our master bath on the 2nd floor. The remodel will move the toilet to the opposite side of the bath room. There is an existing 3 inch drain that runs up a wall from the basement, the in-between two floor joists between the first floor and the bathroom floor over to the existing toilet. In order to move the toilet, I need to tap into the existing drain and run it across 5 floor joists, making a 3.5 inch hole through each joist. We have 12 inch engineered floor joists. Do I need to put in any type of reinforcement in the floor joist?

Thanks

Justin
