3-position wall switch for 3-way light bulbs

03/23/2005 03:17 PM mikeemcg

Is there such a thing? I'm looking for a wall switch with off-low-medium-high positions that would behave like a table lamp with a 3-way bulb/socket. I'm not looking for a "3-way switch", i.e. a switch that is part of a one-light controlled by two different wall switches setup.

My goal is to use four 3-way compact fluorescent light bulbs in my dining room overhead light that is controlled by one wall switch. I'm not sure if this is possible and if it is, what kind of wall switch do I need to get? If it isn't possible, I may get dimmable compact fluorescents and a compact fluorescent compatible dimmer switch.

I think fluorescents rated for dimmer & dimmer switch would be the way to go.

using dimmer

Thanks for the reply. I've since learned that the 3-way bulbs are completely different and require a different outlet, not just a special type of switch. So the dimmable fluorescent with a newer cf-compatable dimmer switch is the way to go. Thanks again.
