4 season sunroom

11/06/2007 12:01 PM tinman2007

Considering adding a 4 season sunroom to our house. This will be the most used room. We live N.W. of Chicago and experience very cold winters. Would this be a option for us? We don't want massive heating and air conditioning bills. Contractors tell us this (4 season sunroom) is what we want. With a maximum r rating of 4 for the glass we are skepical since the rooms are mostly glass. We plan on including a gas fireplace and air conditioner. Thanks

It's an option, but ...

it will cost a lot to heat and A/C it. We have one and we often don't run the heat pump for the room for that reason. I also put weather stripping on the interior French doors between the family room and sun room to avoid drafts. Fortunately, heating it is your biggest problem, and the windows will help with that. Make sure they have shades for the summer time.
