Admiral Metal Kitchen Cabinets

12/28/2008 06:03 PM JacciR

We just removed a set of Admiral Metal kitchen cabinets that I would love to see go to a new home. I'm not sure when they were new but my parents bought them used in 1958 for $25.00 and they've been in this home ever since. (A quarter a year cost isn't too bad, huh?) I have a double sink unit with 2 attached side cupboards (I did get rid of the sink and the countertop), 2 smaller hanging cupboards and 1 larger double sized cupboard plus a smaller rectangular sized hanging cupboard. 6 years ago I sanded the set down to the silver finish then painted a base coat, put on a texture then a paint coat then several coats of polyurethane and they were quite attractive. Underneath the sink unit has some issues which is why we took them out now. We had a leak and it completely rusted out over 1/2 of the floor of the unit. I imagine it could be fixed. Other than that they are in good shape. They've been used daily for over 50 years. I doubt my new cabinets will still look as good in 50 years. I really hate to see these go out on the curb this spring at city clean up time so if you are interested please email me. I am in Iowa. My email is jmr817@aol.com and put cupboard as the subject line so I won't think it's spam.

hi -
my wife and i are looking for old admiral metal cabinets to match the ones in our older kitchen. a prior owner made chipboard cabinets to "replicate" the admiral, but they are starting to fall apart and i'm undertaking a full renovation of the kitchen. i'm most interested in the sink base & attached lower cabinets. do you have pictures & actual sizes you could email to me? please reply to my regular email address - dbytalk23@gmail.com
thanks!
dave
