Attaching a pergola to the roof

04/22/2003 01:46 PM SMunk

I plan on building a pergola onto my front porch. Problem is, attaching to the rafter tails will make it too low(short). I want to attach further up, on the roof. Anyone know of a slick way to do this? It's a new roof so I'd want to disturb it as little as possible. I've seen 'rafter saddles' in magazines but don't know if this is the way to go or where to get them.

thx

Can you place posts by the eave and carry it independent of the existing roof... perhaps use a cantelever to get the posts ****her from the wall?

okay... by cantilevering you will get you out from the wall an even greater distance.

(The self editing on the forum didn't like the first part of that word )
