Bay Window- Handyman or big name?

08/07/2007 01:47 PM erin25

We are getting a big bay window put in. If we go with a big name contractor, we are looking at $4400. If we go with a handyman we know, we are looking at $2000. The handy man we know comes highly recommended and not that I know anything but he appears to know what he is talkng about.
I am wondering, are we better to go with a big name contractor to install it and spend the extra $$$$$, or as long as we get a good window, should we be fine with the handy man?
I have no idea what installing a window intails, so I don't know if its a huge deal or not. TIA!!!

Dentist or Handyman?

Do you have your handyman pull your teeth, you know he has pliers and might be able to do the job.

On a serious note, a bay or bow window should be installed by a trained experienced installer. 95% of all home improvement companies go out of business before their 10th year. If I was you I would look for a company that has been in business for a while, has a good warranty, sells a good product, services what they sell.

If you get bored I copied one of my long winded post here about hiring a window company and put it on my web-site (blog area).
