Books on Post-War bungalows?

10/08/1998 02:20 PM

We just bought a house that I call ranch style but my husband, the historical preservationist calls post-war bungalow. It was built around 1946. The kitchen has already been remoldeled but we are thinking of trying to make it more "of the period." I've looked up magazines like _American Home_ and _Better Homes & Gardens_ but was wondering if there was a good book about this particular period. Most books stop around 1930. We want to redo the outside which was done in vinyl siding so are interested in exteriors as well as interiors.

You were looking in the wrong magazines. Old House Journal should be very helpful, their site is: www.oldhousejournal.com
The December issue has an article on Bungalow kitchens you might find interesting.
They do have an Old-House Bookshop, you can order the catalogue through 1-800-931-2931
