. Now the builder claims its too late, as yesterday they hung all the windows, and should have nailed in the OSB board for the roof today. They claim that for the Amowrap to work effectively, they would have to take the windows out. They also claim that the "Wolverine" brand vinyl siding to be used is sufficient protection against moisture, and air leaks. They claim that they only use the material on brick or stone only. They said that they haven't had any problems with their other homes, and they have about 7 developements of single family homes in the greater Akron, Ohio area. I spoke with a neighbor, and she assured me that they have had no problems without any housewrap installed. Does anyone know of any vinyl sided homes not housewraped, without any air movement problems? Would throughly caulking all joints and seams be effective? I would appreciate any more advise or insight.

Take the windows out??? I can see how 'technically' you would want to put the wrap on first so that the flanges on the windows would seal it. <BUT> I think they're giving you the run around on the issue. Wrap can go on after the windows in which case you use the sealant tape and tape around the windows. Perhaps not as good or preferred, but definately better than no house wrap. I believe that the house wrap is too important not to have. Good luck. Let us know how you end up...

coairman,I'm backing Dave 100% on this.That is a load of crap that your builder is giving you.I just had my house built and have been in it for ten months now.My siding is vinyl with the front elevation brick. The entire house is wrapped with Tyvek.What Dave says about taping around windows and doors is correct.

Thanks guys for all your input. I will call the builder in the morning on Monday, and push the issue with them.

Dave,

The builder is sticking to its story, that the windows must be taken out to properly wrap the house. He assured me that they insulate soo well, that wrapping is not necessary. I have talked to two future neighbors, in the same developement, and both have assured me that their heating bills are not too bad, and that they have had no problems with air infiltration. I have given up on the issue, and decided not to press the issue anymore.
