CARPET TO TILE BATHROOM FLOOR

08/08/2004 12:24 PM HENRI1973

MY GUEST BATH HAS A SMALL CARPET IN THE ENTRY. MY DOG HAD SEVERAL MISHAPS ON THE CARPET. I WANT TO TAKE THE CARPET OUT AND TILE THE ENTIRE FLOOR. MY QUESTION IS: DO I NEED TO TREAT OR REPLACE THE STAINED SUBFLOOR PRIOR TO INSTALLING TILE?

are your subfloors particle board or plywood? with either one it is better to put a layer of half inch plywood on top ,glued and screwed down, to avoid any cracking (grout or tile)from the movement of the floor in your mobile. stand in one spot and gently bounce and see the flex in a glass of water. if it relly ripples, then use three quarter in plywood. and screw into the joists as well as about every 8 inches in a grid.
