Two years ago I painted my basement floor with an oil based paint/sealer for concrete. My house was newly constructed and the basement floor was probably poured five months before I painted it. I did not apply any acid to the floor before I painted it. The problem with the painted floor is that whenever the weather becomes humid the paint becomes very sticky and it will come off on your shoes. Now I would like to finish our basement and have carpet installed. I am concerned about any possible environmental conditions (ie. mold, fungus) that could be created by simply carpetting over the painted floor. I would like to know if it is necessary to strip the paint off the basement floor before carpetting. I would greatly appreciate any advice from someone who has expertise in this area. Thanks |
