My parents have a fireplace hearth? (not inside the fireplace but the ledge in front of the actual 'fireplace') that turns out to be sandstone. They have lived in the house since 1959 & the hearth has gotten a little soiled after all these years from people sitting on it, spilling things, dirt from the wood, etc.

Does anyone have any advice on cleaning the horizontal surface? It is about 2" thick w/ scalloped edges and is a lt. brown/tan color.
