Cold Air Returns

02/20/2008 08:48 PM darman16

I have an older furnace. It has a brand new heat exchanger though. I ahve a 950 sqft ranch house. I only have one cold air return in the hall way. Would it make sense to cut a new air vent above our bed room door to circulate the air?

Thanks

It depends on whether you want the kids in the hall to hear everything. Why are you asking? is there a problem with the heating or cooling in the bedroom? You would increase the ability to return warm air from the ceiling for cooling, but you would want the cold air from the floor level to return for heating.

I am asking this because if i keep my bedroom door closed it is cold in the room. the bedroom is above the garage so its colder. also i figured that would be the easiest soulution. you do bring up a good point. i guess it would just be smart to run a new cold air return from the floor.
