Hi, I am buying a colonial New England home built in 1858. The house is white with black trim. I read a few years back that during the time of colonial and civil war period that there was great significance placed upon what color the front door was. Can anyone point me to a resource for this information? I have been unsuccessful in relocating the material I read several years ago on this topic. |

Dear GTC, If I remember correctly, the door color was used to display loyalty to either the north or south. Federal blue for North and Red for the CSA, which in my opinion was kind of dumb. But if you do a search for Civil War History oddities, I think you'll find what what you are looking for. Len |
