We are redoing a add on addition that was built using concrete block. We have tore everything out and need to hang drywall but we are unsure of what is the proper way to attached the drywall to the block and do we need to put plastic before we put on the drywall. It is above ground.

Dear Chrissy, You didn't say if your addition was above or below ground. Please advise. If it is above ground, you might want to utilize a styrofoam insulation. But before we get to that, I use standard pressure treated 1X4's and attach them with "Tapcon" concrete screws. These can be found at your local Home Depot. The drill bit is included. Either rent or buy a hammer drill as this makes the drilling 100% easier. Use compressed air to blow out the holes or squirt a little WD-40 in the hole to lubricate the screw. Set your 1x4's at 2' centers to strengthen your drywall. Once your studs are in, cut your insulation to fit and wedge it into the spaces between the studs. Use 1 1/4" drywall screws to ascertain good adhesion to the studs. Then finish. Good Luck, Len |

Dear Chrissy, Sorry I forgot. Make sure that you countersink all your screwholes in the wood or it will split. Second, if there are electrical outlets in your addition, ascertain that they are the correct depth to the new wall. Len |
