Cooktop burner removal

03/06/2006 10:55 AM pugsathome

We have a SGSX365ZS, Thermador 36" cook top that has the star burners. When you remove the caps, the "base" that the caps rest in have a brass 'nut' attaching the base to the cooktop.

This might be a better tools question than appliances, I don't know. Time to time, the nuts and bases need removing in order to clean under the bases which accumulate stains/crud. My regular sockets are scratching the brass nuts, and intermittently the base (I'm older and not as graceful as I once was - no steady hands here). Is there a rubberized or softer tool that won't mar or tear up these materials? Granted they aren't visible unless the caps are removed, but I still would like to do the job right/better.
