Crawl space or slab?

06/16/2003 08:06 AM VirginiaSteve

We are looking at buying our first home in tidewater VA and I was wondering if anyone had some advice on what the advantages and disadvantages there are between a raised concrete slab foundation or a crawlspace. is one better than another? Thanks!

Crawl space or slab?

NOT REALLY AN EXPERT, BUT I WOULD GO WITH A CRAWL SPACE. MY DEN IS ON A SLAB, AND IT IS BY FAR THE COLDEST ROOM IN THE HOUSE. I JUST BUILT AN ADDITTION, AND WENT THROUGH THE TROUBLE TO PUT A CRAWL IN. RUNNING DUCTWORK FOR VARIOUS HEATING/COOLING SYSTEMS IS EASIER TOO. OTHER THAN COST, I CANNOT THINK OF AN ADVANTAGE TO THE SLAB.

crawl space or slab

Just letting you know we have had plumbing problems and the only way to professionally fix it will cost us thousands, mainly due to it being a slab foundation. And with a crawl space or basement you would have access to the pipes instead of them being dug up or the concrete slab having to be cut.
