Designing a new basement

01/15/2008 12:42 PM tajpez0131

I am in the process of looking for a contractor to put a full foundation under a portion of my home. Currently, our 1870's farm house has a stone foundation on the original half of the house (2 Story Section). An addition was added in the early 1900's but it was placed on a crawl space with some concrete work and other portions of the house being placed on the ground. We are looking to take this 24 X 26 portion on the house (1 Story Section) and add a full foundation to improve heating cost, add living space, and reduce the mold smell in that portion of the home. Adding to additional parts of the home is difficult due to proximity to the road, septic systems and the location of our well. Thus, adding the full foundation seems most cost effective and logical.

Would it be necessary to have a sump pump system installed or would a drain system in the floor be more adventagous?
