MODEL: General Electric: MFC 300 P

I have a disposal problem. Over the last couple of days, it has become EXTREMELY loud - like something is stuck inside. I removed the splash guard and took out the little junk that was there. Pressed the reset button on the bottom of the unit (Not that I expected it to make any diff since the unit was working).

I have heard that there is a hex nut opening on the side/bottom. You can put a hex nut in and twist and that unclogs it. I did not see that on this specific model. I tried to undo the perforated disc from the top to access the area that might have the offending object. I could not open it though.

Is it possible that an object went in from the dishwasher - like a small knife or something? (Wife says a small knife is missing!)

Any thoughts/help appreciated.

That is a feature of In-Sink-Erator made disposer models (which I believe GE brands are not). I don't know if any other disposer manufacturers have them, possibly not. BTW. It doesn't unclog them, just frees up a stuck unit.

Not likely.

The unit may have to be disassembled to get any foreign objects out which still may be in there. It may also be that something has happened to one of the units components in which case replacing the part (or the whole unit) may be required. I don't know about your model's design but special tools are needed to take ISE disposals apart.
