Do it yourself termite treatment

10/15/2004 02:49 AM priscillaH

I recently purchased a home "as is" knowing that there was termite related work to be done at around 5,000.00. A major part of the bill is the termidor soil treatment including rodding. I've noticed the do it yourself treatment (foamers, liquids, etc.) and they are much cheaper. Do these products work or is it better to use the pricey pro's.

termite control

Professional termite control is expensive because it is labor intensive and the chemicals are costly. The companies also generally provide warranties and return service. It is possible to save significant money to DIY termite control, but you must be prepared to use enough of the expensive chemical, and take the time to apply it correctly, or it will just be wasted, and your home unprotected. Be prepared to do trenching, drilling and other means to get the chemical where it needs to be applied and figure on about one dollar per linear foot of foundation for preparation and treatment.

Professional quality products may be purchased, and there is good information at the following link. I have used products from this company and have found it to be much better than what the average homeowner can buy in a store. http://www.bugspray.com/article/termites.html
