That can happen. I've seen incorrectly installed appliances work Ok for years only to develop problems later on. It makes it hard for customers to believe the installation is the cause... even when correcting the installation fixes the problem. :/

I doubt the washer itself has anything to do with your problem. Maybe the air gap for the drain hose just got sealed into the standpipe temporarily by foam from a previous drain?
