Our septic system was recently pumped and the guy pointed out that there is a stream (more than a drip) of water coming into the tank. I've recently had low water pressure at the kitchen sink, both hot and cold and I cannot get my dishwasher to start up. About 6 months ago we had a new submersible pump replaced at the well and I thought that the low pressure and the dishwasher were a result of "gunk" from the start up of the new well pump. I am currently trying to take apart the sink spigot in order to check for a buildup but the steady large drip into the tank has me concerned. Any ideas?

SO I read all about faucet filters on this blog and went to my kitchen sink, removed the filter on the end of the faucet and the sink water (both hot and cold) run beautifully! After taking it all apart I am now soaking the little filter part to try to get out the gunk. If it will not clear, the faucet is a Moen and I probably can purchase a replacement filter. The dishwasher has a "LOCK" on it with flashing buttons (never noticed THAT before) and it will not clear or unlock but I'll keep working on it. So, my husband thinks I am brilliant but I need to address the "steady drip" into the septic system. At least I don't think the kitchen has a broken pipe under the house that is dripping now that the sink faucet flows wonderfully without the filter on it. Any advice for the next place to look for "running water" into the septic tank?

Thanks Larry-I'm on it!!! Will I hear the water draining at the toilet? I know that we replaced the one toilet's interior parts about a year ago but when we purchased everything, I kept saying that it just seemed "cheaper" than the original parts being taken out.

as far as hearing it the answer is not always.
one way to tell for sure is to put a few drops of food coloring into the tank don't flush it and wait awhile.
if then you get colored water in the bowl you know it's leaking.

What I used to do is place instant coffee in the tank and look to see if it shows in the bowl.

I think an easier way would be to shut the water supply to the tank prior to leaving the house and when they return check the tanks water level same principle as a watched pot doesn't boil

Thank you Larry, The 400A is great for letting folks know if the toilet is the leaker otherwise you can just remove the refill tube and with a flashlight look down the over flow tube and see the water trickling through the Douglas valve
