Dryer lint build-up

08/19/2005 02:01 AM DanO Moderator

** Can anyone confirm that lint should NOT normally accumulate inside the unit? **

It is not designed to but can build up depending on conditions.

** I'm now also wondering if I should disassemble the blower wheel to clean out the housing **

Making sure all internal ducts are clear is a good idea was well as the blower wheel.

** does anyone know how to remove this wheel? **

On most Whirlpool/Kenmore dryers the blower wheel is screwed onto the motor shaft using a left-hand thread but if you post the proper model number of your dryer ("HE3" isn't it), we can check.

I would however suggest you NOT attempt to remove the blow fan from the motor if you don't absolutely have to. They can be difficult to remove and may get broken in the process. Sometimes they have to be broken to get them off!

** Are there other maintenance work that I should perform - like on the drum - knowing that I've had an exhaust issue for as long as a year? **

Other than cleaning the lint and fixing the vent, there shouldn't be... unless there are additional symptoms or problems. You can read a bit about proper dryer venting at the following link:

- How long can my dryer vent be?
