It leaves them very rough. But rough surfaces accept paint better. So it's a matter of what kind of surface you want once your final coat of regular paint is done. Personally, I would not want this Drylok exposed at all in any area where people will be. Somebody rubs against it too hard and there goes their skin. I imagine multiple coats of that paint will smooth over the Drylok's rough finish but who knows how many it would take.
