Electrical service upgrad from fuses to circuit breakers

09/17/2006 12:18 PM Bungalow

I have a fuse box and plan to upgrade it to a circuit breaker panel.

My city allows me to do wiring on my own home.

I have all copper wire - no aluminum except for the main coming in. This is what I plan to do, starting in the early morning to maximize daylight.

1. Pull the main fuse block disconnecting all power.

2. Disconnect all but one of the branches from the fuse box and move wires out of the box. The remaining fused branch is for powering a light, fridge, microwave etc, since the service disconnection, inspection, and service reconnection make take a few days.

3. Move and temporarily mount the fuse box out of the way, making room to mount breaker panel.

4. Reconnect all but one of the branches to breakers in the breaker panel. The breaker panel is still unpowered at this point.

The following steps will have been scheduled in advance.

5. Get power company to disconnect power.

6. Move the main power cable from the fuse box to the breaker panel.

7. Get the whole thing inspected.

8. Get power company to reconnect power.

Did I forget anything? Suggestions,

Thanks.
