O.K GUYS ...this sounds great but i we all need to be on the same page....i think its easier said than done...so i have ben thinking....what can we do with bare bones shop tools....table saw jointer planer ...it would be nice to have a mortiser but a drill and chisels can work...a #4 and 7 planes would be helpful and how about some gouges.......i think the project can be a really cool coffee table...the top aprons and legs will be made of solid....with a drawer that will be veneered with edge banding and cockbeading.....maybe we can put a compass star on the top ....how about some easy bellflowers and stringing....at least on 1 leg...heck we can make it so it has 4 different legs and embelishments.....you know like 2 spade feet 1 carved out of solid and the other made from applied stock ....1 tapered with a veneered cuff ...and the other will be a surprise.....i am working on a contemporary thing in my head....its a simple detail but very cool....so let me know .. i need top make it first so i need some leed time....sounds fun |

Tommy I'm in man!!!!
Table saw, jointer, planer, morticer,.....what the heck's a number 4, just kidding. You mean my plane irons will touch real wood rather than MDF and ply. I think I hear them singing "Glory Be" right now.
Whatever the group is into Tommy, I'm in. It would be great to kick internet woodworking up a knotch!!!! Its the next step and needed.
Way to Noodle it Eli, Chuck, and Dave. |

Sounds like the wheels are turning and ideas are ruminating. This project could be a great beta test to work out logistic kinks and presentation issues. I will be eagerly awaiting further development of this podcast instruction idea and project. |

The project sounds great. I would cover many new aspects in one project. I would have most tools needed except gouges...would now have a reason to acquire some. However, would have to rely on a friend, if a lathe would be needed. (Do not want to acquire a lathe due to space restrictions)

Great ideas Tommy!
I don't care what we do or what it looks like.... well within reason.... just jam it full of stuff we can learn without being there in person.
I agree with what Neil said.... if you and the rest of us can pull this off it might be the next big step in podcasting or woodworking on the internet |

Wow, things happen fast on the internet. I think the coffee table sounds great. The different legs would be really fun and the finished table would make a fantastic conversation piece; a fine badge from Tom MacDonald's class. Also, I need a coffee table.

Tommey,
Before we get too far along and as we get more involved with the work, I believe everyone on this forum would like to thank you for even considering this project. I know operating your own shop you must be busy. I for one really apperciate the effort and time you will be putting into this project. The personality you have shown on the bombe, is one that will not allow yourself to start something and than do it halfa** or incomplete. I expect we all will joke around and have fun building this project. But I will and assume everone on the project will have the upmost respect for you at pioneering this type of instruction over the internet.
Again, Thank You

ok guys I have been giving it some thought and before I commit I need all of you too commit to the process I think if we gonna do this then let's do this ...... I know all of you know how to woodwork...and I know I don't have all the answers or the best way to do things I just know how I do it .... So if you can commit to doing things my way for the project .... We can discuss different ways on the forum . Just because its a good way to keep us all on the same page..... How do you feel about some federal stuff to explore ..... I have just spent 14 months on chippendale so I could a change .... Maybe of this works out we can do a chip project later........ So if you guys are in..I will start some research on what I want to do and what tools will be needed.. So let's say after I get a tool list ..... We start 2 weeks after.... Give you some time to get set up ..... Just please think about it before. You commit.... I don't want to hear any b.s. Excuses later..... And just to let you know I started a bedroom set yesturday .... So I will be doing this after work too....... I |

Dear Mr Chizz:
With left hand firmly on the text "John Townsend, Newport Cabinetmaker" and right hand proudly raised, holding my brand spanking new Lie-Nielsen 3/4 and 3/8 Chisels, I promise to alocate my evenings accordingly (mixed in with my other stuff)to the completion of the Rough Cut Forum Project.
I promise to leave some of my work habbits at the door, and see the value in working through the knowledge of Master-T, because I trust the outcome.
I solemly swear that I will do more "Chop-chop and limited Type-Type" to keep interference out of our goal of project completion and to make T-Mac and the greater internet woodworking community proud of our group accomplishment.
And lastly I promise to have fun, alot of fun with the project and look foward to sharing this accomplishment with all you guys in the forum because simply,......
I love woodworking...........Neil |
