I started looking for some of the tools I don't have and thought this might help others:
I couldn't easily find a 2 1/2" flush trim bit but a 2" with the bearing on top is easy to find and should be long enough
the 1/4 cove bit I think is actually called a "core box" it has no bearing
Lee Valley has the punch set they call it the "spiral punch set" at $28 and they also sell the trammel that should work called the "yardstick compass set" at $9
The gouges I found at Woodcraft they are straight sweep gouges with a #5 sweep and are 8, 12, 16 and 20 mm at $25 a pop (they are the Pfeil swiss made ones)
The dremmel you can get at Lowes but I'm not sure it has a fence.
I'm getting ready to go.

Nice work Brian.......another option we have for the #5 sweep is Woodcarvers Supply....Master Carver $19.95. I'm only looking at cost here, I do not own this brand, and since we're going to punch through veneer should be fine.
http://www.woodcarverssupply.com
Contacted Berkshire Veneer, Ben is out of loop, e-mailed T-Mac and he'll no doubt get Ben in the loop.
Chuck, Dave,Justin,Eli, anybody...I'm not sure what we are looking for on the dremel tool. Can somebody post a link or a picture so I have an idea of the dremel package that we need. |

Neil,
Don't presently own a dremel tool let alone know the tooling for the tool. Noticed they sell the units at the big box stores and Meijer and Walmart. However, I do not have a clue which model or package is the best.
Anyone in the Midwest with a DSI, Inc in their area can get 8/4 Honduras Mahogany for $10.33/ bd. ft.

I found some other info on the dremel attachment. They make a base and edge guide (attachment 335) CPO tools sells it for $25, Lowes $30 and Lee Valley for $35. If you want to spend a lot of $ Stewart McDonald makes a base for $52 and edge guide for $33. I think I'm going for the cheaper one.

Plunge base for Dremel |

Is the Dremel attachment 335 base removeable. The Steward MacDonald base is removeable. In Fine Woodworking issue 180 pg. Steve Latta makes a shopmade concave base to match an apron on a federal card table. For an extra $22.00, you get some versatility. Plus it is made from machined metal parts. The Dremel 335 base appears to be a lot of plastic. (I would think it would last longer and operate smoother). Only my opinion.
