Error and fault codes are not an absolute indicator of a part's failure but just a pointer to a *possible* cause.
While E1 on your model does indicate the control *thinks* there the thermistor circuit is open, the actual problem could be the thermistor, the wiring to it or in the thermistor sensing portion of the electronic control. The control has no way to know which is the case.
You could just replace it and hope for the best. They aren't that expensive and they are often the actual cause of such error messages rather then the other possibilities.
