Fixing a Roof Leak / Mold

10/17/2007 12:38 PM redelman5

We found some mold above bay windows in the bedroom and it turns out there is a leak in the roof, but we've only seen water on really heavy downpours. A bunch of roofers have come by, but can't seem to pinpoint the source and therefore they recommend different fixes. At the same time, we want to remediate the mold. So how do you know what the right roof fix is or if its been fixed, and then do you wait to fix the mold since your can't be sure you've fixed the moisture problem. Any thoughts would be helpful.

Fixing a Roof leak/mold

Have you tried to isolate the leak with a garden hose ,starting from the bottom working up in incraments. You should be able to do this rather quickly. The mold can be delt with, I suggest professionally, the sourse of the leak comes first. I been roofing forever and a photo would be great, I can tell alot from just looking at it !! If I were there,...I would find it that day and offer solutions. Bay window leaks are most often flashing issues, either from it or around or above it flashings. (siding included)

Try and post a photo,..we`ll go from there !!
