Flippin' the Router and Makin' Mortises

Hey Guys,

Just thought I'd share a pic of this set-up. I'd been wanting to try it for a while and it worked great. Obviously I don't have a dedicated mortiser. Lots of clamps on the Veritas table and then flipped it on its side.... and whamo!

Gotta run and start squaring off the corners and cutting tenons.... I'm trying to catch up to the rest of you all stars out there!

thanks for looking

Dave

Mortise Pal

Check out how simple the Mortise Pal jig is...

Popular Woodworking just reviewed it on their blog and it can utilize loose tenon joinery with ease. Not as good as a Domino, but quite effective and cheaper.

makin the most of what you've got

cool links Andrew, that jig is neat.

don't quite know what you mean by a multi router Tommy, I'll have to google it and see what you mean...

I approach things like this - I can't make the gouges we need or a #8 plane, or that kind of stuff... but if rearrange something I already have to perform another function, I've just saved money buying that tool (at least for now).... so I can put the money towards the tools that I can't make.

plus, when you're not building stuff out of poplar or knotty pine anymore, a trip to the lumber store sometimes costs more than the next tool you'd like to get! haha .... chop chop

Multi-Router

Tommy,

Isn't that the gizmo that D Marks uses a lot on his show. Personal I am trying to move away from using loose tenons and doing more haunch tenons, because their strenght and they prevent twisting from occurring, or am I missing something.
