Foundation Repair

08/09/2002 03:40 PM georob

Hi Glenn I got your e-mail saying that I should reply here.

My foundation crack was repaired sort of by a contractor. He told me though that it is only temporary because the floor doesn't take water all that well. What he did was punched a hole in the floor and poured water down the hole to see how well the floor took the water, it took it but not all that well. He said eventually I would have a water problem in the basment.

However the problem is now is the floor goes all the way to the wall. No where for it to go, he said that I would have to make a trench or something all along the walls of the basement for the water to go and then get a sump pump to take the water out.

Right now I think that is a little extreme. The house kind of sits up, I think one of the problems is the gutter that is above the crack in the basement is old and has a big hole in it.

What he did was chiseled out the whole crack and I think put in the hydraulic cement.

Will this work do you have any suggestions?

Thanks
George

What he did was only a temporary repair at best. If this is the only place you are getting water into the basement it can be permanently repaired from outside. It will require having a hole dug next to the wall all the way down to the footing where the crack is located. I cannot send you the information through this bulletin board, the file is too large and I cannot send the illustrations through here. You need to go to the “Expert Advice” area by clicking the button at the top of the screen.
