Foundation question

08/07/2007 11:43 PM echenry

Hi,

I live in a condo in California, my CC&R's require that we have some type of sound barrier if we want to lay wood flooring. I bought the sound proofing, but now they say that there isn't enough concrete between the floor and I will need to find out what is the sound ration for slab concrete flooring by the inch...Can you help me out? I have paid and astronomical amount of money for my flooring which is sitting waiting to be installed....PLEASE HELP so I can give them an answer...I WANT MY FLOORS

" sound ration for slab concrete flooring"

I have no idea what the question is. Sound transmission is specified by STC (sound transmission class) for thinks like voices and TV and IIC (impact insulation class) for things like footsteps.

And the rating is for the ASEEMBLY starting with the finished floor and ending with the finished ceiling of the unit below and including all supporting systems, isolation systems and mass systems.

Also I have no idea what kind of "sound proofing" that you have.

Here is someplaces to start.

A google on STC IIC FLOOR ASSEMBLY (OR ASSEMBLIES) will get you much more information.

Who is installing he floor? They should know about this.

Also this has nothing to do with Foudnations.

Try posting it in the Flooring section.
