Frost Line

08/20/2001 12:41 PM DJ1234

I am located in Niagara Falls Canada and was wondering if anyone new what the frost line depth would be for this area. The reason being, I am putting up a fence.

Thanks in advance.

Frost Line

HI DJ1234,

Call your local building inspector. It can vary dramatically from one part of town to the next. Temperature isn't the only 'guage' used to determine the frost line. Soil Consistance is used too.

My best to ya and hope this helps.

PS: In parts of Minnesota, I've heard it's 72" ...

PPS: Don't forget - Dig 6+ inches BELOW the frost line and add about 3-4" of gravel for drainage ...
