Furniture style question for the experts.

I got this dresser from my parents yesterday and can't figure out much about it. I know they got it at an antique store about 20-25 years ago. It's made out of something super light like basswood or really light pine and stained. I don't think the current stain is original and the drawer pulls are definitely not original. The drawers are all dovetailed front and back but look rather sloppy and some are pretty loose. There is a few really poor repairs here and there too. I can't tell if the big top drawer is machine or hand made. The back boards are super rough cut.
So is this thing old or contemporary? Is it worth the work to make it right?
I have a few more pics too.
