How can I remove gloss paint form a plastered wall? I would like to emulsion the wall, but if I leave the gloss paint on the surface it would look terrible. I need to strip it back to the bare plaster - help!

In the USA we don't have "emulsion" .....but I understand it's a Flat Latex Paint......
