Go there

Winterthur has the most amazing furniture. I've been 4 times and have seen half the rooms at most. Everything in the house is displayed in period rooms, and is all pre-victorian.

If you go get a private tour. If you take the standard tour they will show all sorts of stuff including paintings, wall hangings, pottery, silver, pewter, etc. All nice stuff. But it gets in the way of the furniture in my opinion. It's worth the extra $$$.

Tim,

Several years ago my brother was a fellow through the Dec. Arts program at Winterthur. I lived relatively close in Norther Va., but I wasn't into this stuff like I am now. I toured with him couple of times and it was amazing.

I'd like get back there sometime soon and drag him along. Long ways from KS. Cal

A long long time

04/24/2008 12:59 PM TTalma

Since I started it I've bought and sold two houses, had two kids, built a new woodshop, got a new job and moved 4 times.

It's been about 3 1/2 years, and I haven't worked on it for a year and a half. I'm hoping to get going again next month.

I have all of the carvings done except I need to finish carving the cartouche and then carve the finials Then it's finish. And I'm done!

Winterthur Field Trip - Excellent Idea

04/24/2008 01:01 PM AndrewSMacIntyre

TChisel... let's go to Winterthur!

I created a new topic for people to post there interest and suggestions for when they would like to go. When we get an idea of how many Rough Cutters are interested, then maybe we can try to call and get a deal for a PRIVATE tour!

good idea

Sounds like a great idea I'll go to!

I just finished watching the Pigeonhole deconstruction video. I could cry. But I agree you did the right thing.

But I goes back to my glue issue, Get a hot glue setup. It would have saved alot of anguish that day.

I pulled apart the completely glued dovetails for the uppercase on the Gratz chest, I made it 2" to wide cause I forgot to add in the molding width on the lower case.

pulling apart the pigeon hole assembly would have been real easy with hide glue.

Call Bess at the Olde mill and she'll hook you up. Forget about the double boilers etc. get a glueput with a copper liner and your good to go!

But now I'm preaching...
