Glumac siding

08/19/2000 09:37 PM ripringers

I have a house built in the 40's or there abouts, it is sided with a product called Glumac siding, manufactured by a comapany called perma products out of cleveland ohio. it is a cedar shake attached to an insualted backer board, looks like pressed sawdust. comes in pppieces 16.5 inches wide by about 3 feet. Can any one tell me anything about this stuff? Any fear of asbestos in the backing insulation? Is it still available or an alternative? I have a small stash of the original stuff from the previous owner but i am going to use it up on a current project. The rest of the house has been well maintained and i would like to be able to have some on hand in the event of alterations. i have seen some repairs on the house done with regular old Shake and a thin insulation board behind it to match the thicknes, but you can definetly tell that it is different from the rest. Any info or advise is greatly apprecaited, Brian, email me at Ripringers@hotmail.com if you wish. thanks again!!!
