Golden Teak |

I bought flooring that was marketed as Golden Teak, with a hardness at 82% harder than red oak. When I had the flooring delivered, I discovered it was actually something called timborana. After investigating, I found that timborana is a "teak like" wood, with a jaanka rating of 1570....much softer than what I was told.
Has anyone used this product, and is it legitimate that it is being marketed as golden teak, when it's not part of the teak species? Now I feel like I've received an inferior wood product in relation to what I thought I was buying. |

Timborana is not teak...although it is an exotic wood. Lumber Liquidators tries to push their timborana off as Gold Teak, but it's not the same. They try to push the wood out the door, so if that is where you bought it, it's no surprise. Gold teak is more recognizable, so that would be a reason to market timborana as gold teak.
It's still an attractive wood however. |

I ran into the same problem after I purchased Virginia Mill Works "Handscraped Golden Teak". Several woodworker told me it was not teak, but they weren't sure what it was. One thought it might be Epay (very hard) and similar to teak. Either way, I'm still not sure what they sold me, but the finish is 10 times weaker than the finish on the sample piece they gave me.
As you probably know, a finish is more important than the wood itself.
If it came from Lumber Liquidators, return it before your 30 days is up or your product is worthless.
