HOUSE SMELLS |

Hi
In certain areas of the house the house has an old funky smell. Do I need a vapor barrier ? I think I may have a cracked main sewer pipe that may have leaked into the house. Not sure though. When it is hot I smell septic. The plumber is coming this week. Also how much insulation is needed in the attic? Is there a certain depth that I need? I guess I will have to get up there and crawl around to see what is there. But I really dont know what I am looking for. Maybe I need new insulation. I am tired of trying to figure it out. Should have bought a new home. |

You might want to put your nose down by the most stained-looking parts of the carpet and sniff. My whole house smelled like that when I moved in, and I didn't know what it was. I replaced the carpet in both bedrooms because it just looked old and nasty, and it got rid of the smell for me. |

There is only carpet in the living room and that is new. It smells like mildew.
Where does mildew come from? THIS OLE HOUSE IS DRIVING ME CRAZY. Headaches all the time. I dont know what else to do. |

That is a tough one. There are processes to eliminate the odor. If you live in the NE area, I may have a few sources for you.
Any question, please email me at kingvolcano@aol.com
