Hardwood floor application without a subfloor?

01/15/2007 10:02 PM creiterman

I was curious if there is a product
that is able to be placed on top of a concrete surface without a
subfloor and is durable in regards to "breathing" with the
condensation.
If so, what is the product name, where would I find it, and
approximately the cost.

I think I was watching a home improvement show and they mentioned
bellawood as the carrier of a vapor resistant wood floor.

Thanks,
Christi

I would recommend an engineered hardwood floor.

Its construction is laminated wood layers and has much better dimensional stabiltiy in regards to expansion and contraction from humidity and temperature.

In fact, it's dimensional stability can be nearly twice that of solid wood hardwood flooring.

Here are a few:

BR-111 Engineered:

Bruce Townsville Engineered Strip:

Harris-Tarkett Crossroads Distressed:

Hartco Engineered:

Mohawk Engineered:

Another important product is the hardwood adhesive itself. There are many varieties that create resistant layer and lower concrete vapor emissions.

The two best I know of are that deal with moisture vapor emossion concerns are:

Bostik:
