Hi, My daughter is looking at buying a 1920s home in Tampa. Don't know what the foundation is, would assume it is up on blocks or something like that. She says the roof is "bowed" and the bottom of the house "flares out" - any idea what this means? Seller says they will fix roof and add to price, also says it is only cosmetic - I'm not so sure. SEller doesn't address "flaring." Nice large remodeled (inside) home with large lot, seller is someone who buys, fixes up, and sells homes and has not lived there. Any ideas? Thanks!

You really need to have some local look at it. An experienced carpenter or roofer.

1. Some houses are built to have a swayback look.

2. The rehaber, or previous owner, that knows nothing about structural loads designed remove some supports and the roof is on the way to falling in in a couple of years.

3. Used undersized, by current standards, roof joist and has sag. But it has laste 80 years and will last another 80.
