Headboard & footboard made from 4x4's

10/12/2006 12:15 PM little3rose

I want to make a headboard and footboard out of 4x4's but not sure how to attach together. Will someone please tell me how to do this? This is for a king size bed, footboard, 4"x4"x3', Headboard is 4"x4"x5'. I would rather use "T" brackets and corner brackets but not sure how this would look or if they will support good. Due to a breathing problem, the mattress needs to be elevated 4" higher then the foot. Side boards are out of 1"x6" attached with a corner bracket(?)with a 3" lip for the boxsprings to sit on all the way around. All rough wood. The headboard will have 2
4x4's going across with 8-10 18" 4x4's vertically between them. The footboard will be the same but the vertical 4x4's will be shorter(?). Would I need to paint the brackets the same color as the wood before I attach them? Or is there something else I should be using? I do not have a drawing at this time. Thanks in advance for any suggests you can give me.
