I am in the process of building my family room in the basement. I want to install all the extras such as recessed lighting above my computer workstation as well as throughout the room. I also want to run Speaker wire for future Home theater installation. Is there any rule of thumb to the location of the wire for the best sound |

These folks will have all sorts of opinions. Go check them out.
By the way, my two best components for my home theater are a DirecTV-TiVo unit (by far the best consumer electronics device since the refrigerator) and some $10 bass shakers (buy Aura Interactor vests off ebay) bolted into the frame of my sofa.
Neither was expensive. TiVo is life-changing. The bass shakers just add a little extra for a very low price.
