Okay...this is getting crazy...i just got home and found that the hot water is working again...which is great because it really ****s taking a cold shower in cold weather....now, i'm interested about what you said about hot water pipes freezing first, because of physics....can i avoid them freezing up again by leaving the hot water on a little bit over night?....And thanks a lot for your advice....it goes a long way for a first time home owner.

Simply stated it means that the temperature in the hot water will always dissipate faster than the temperature in cold water, thus the reason why hot water pipes usually will freeze first followed by the cold water pipes.
As I stated in my first response, you can leave the water in BOTH pipes running slowly to help avoid freezing to certain temperatures. This does quickly become an expensive solution. You need to correct the problem or you will loose in the dead of winter some freezing night.

You really should insulate the pipes!
