How do I remove drywall from from brick?

I have a beautiful brick wall sitting behind 3/8" drywall and want to expose the brick. Is there a process or chemical that can be applied to clean the brick after I remove the plasterboard? I'd strongly prefer NOT to sandblast. Thanks!!!!
