Literally. Two coats of latex paint on a wood end table. I took the table apart, scuffed up the surfaces to give them some tooth, then painted each piece and the legs separately.

I painted outside on a somewhat humid, warm day; used a roller to apply two coats (used a brush on the legs). Waited about 2 hours between coats.

This was a week ago. The legs are dry. Yea! The table pieces, however, are still NOT dry. Not super tacky, but far too tacky to consider using.

I set the pieces out in the sun each day hoping the heat from the sun will help "cure" the paint. I'm beginning to wonder if the heat is helpful or a hindrance.

Can anyone PLEASE help me get these @#$!! pieces to cure?

One week?! Low temperature is supposed to make drying time longer, so conversely, heat should speed up drying.

Did you clean the table in addition to sanding? There could have been wax, oil, hand oil, etc. on teh table top that could be causing this problem.

Also two hours between coats is to quick as the first coat was not anywhere near dry as on a flat surface like a table top you tend to apply the paint on the thick side. Now it does take latex paints up to thirty days to cure out and with it being humid that slows down the process and you need to keep the table inside with the AC running. It will harden up most likely as it cures out some more.
