We're overhauling our kitchen (to start) and will be picking out lighting soon. We currently have a ceiling fan, but will be looking for more elegant fixtures to go with our renovations.

Is it possible to self-install completely different styles of fixtures or will we need to hire an electrician? (We'd prefer to avoid this, as we'd rather spend our money on nice decor rather than labor) Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

the tools are basic.
screwdrivers/pliers/etc..
if your not adding more wire, then its just a matter of placing the lights were you want them.
if you have to run more wire, and whether or not you need to run wire back to the circuit box and add breakers.
