Insulate air handler? |

My house has 2 heat pumps. One air handler is in the attic, one in the crawl space. My question is: should air handlers (sheet metal) be insulated, and if so, what's the right way to do it?

Air handlers are insulated with a thin layer inside. If they are insulated further, that is a help to save energy, but it may make it difficult to service. |

I was thinking of the "fixed" panels that aren't removeable for service. Could a sheet of styrofoam type insulation be glued to those? It bothers me when the attic is 110 degrees or so, and the AC is running. That sheet metal is cold and must be losing a tremendous amount of energy. |

It isn't a TREMENDOUS amount per square foot, but it IS a loss. Foil-faced Hi-R foam can be masticked to the surfaces. |
