Insulate air handler?

I was thinking of the "fixed" panels that aren't removeable for service. Could a sheet of styrofoam type insulation be glued to those?
It bothers me when the attic is 110 degrees or so, and the AC is running. That sheet metal is cold and must be losing a tremendous amount of energy.
